About us

At Rosalind Blauer Centre for Child Care, we provide a variety of opportunities for children to learn through play. Children explore and manipulate their environment through meaningful experimentation and active involvement in challenging, age-appropriate activities that are reinforced through repetition.

Each child is treated as an individual as we introduce activities, materials and situations that enhance his/her physical, emotional, social and intellectual level of development. We emphasize the “process rather than the product” in order to encourage a feeling of success without pressure. This fosters a sense of accomplishment and pride in each child. We teach a love of respect, awareness and appreciation for themselves, others around them, and the environment. Communication and language skills, in conjunction with problem-solving and decision-making techniques, give children an opportunity to exercise initiative and independence.

We value the positive relationships that we build with the children in our care and with their families. Parents’ active involvement is an important part of our program. Parents can gain valuable insight and learn techniques from our experienced staff and participate by sharing their own talents and interests. Early Childhood Education becomes a shared experience, laying a good foundation for continuing education throughout each child’s life.

Mission statement

The Rosalind Blauer Centre for Child Care provides a safe, stimulating, learning environment for children of Brock University students, staff/faculty and for community members, in a licensed, non- profit child care center.

We serve morning snack, lunch and an afternoon snack daily. Our menu is nutritious, child friendly and diverse. We offer a five week rotational menu in the fall and winter and a four week rotational menu in the spring and summer.

All program staff at Rosalind Blauer are Registered Early Childhood Educators and membersof the College of Early Childhood Educators. We also have an onsite cook who purchases and prepares all of the food served at the centre.

Rosalind Blauer Centre for Child Care is located on the campus of Brock University. The centre is a modern facility with many windows and skylights that provide an abundance of natural light and a great view of the lush green space surrounding the campus.

In addition to the large individual rooms for each age group we also have a separate creative room with a loft in our preschool area, three outdoor playgrounds, an interactive fenced vegetable/fruit garden, forested pathways for walks as well as access to many facilities at the University. Parking is conveniently located directly in front of the centre and a security code access means that only staff and parents can enter the building freely.

Based on the theory that children learn through play, classroom routines encourage active involvement, meaningful experimentation and reinforcement through repetition. Our program offers a variety of area for children to explore both indoors and outdoors. Jolly Phonics is an important part of our program.

Children are introduced to letter recognition and sounds using an action for each letter. Program plans are posted weekly so that parents can see what topic their child is exploring in addition to the types of activities they will be experiencing.

The Rosalind Blauer Centre for Child Care is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors and is made up of centre parents, one Brock University student representative and community members.
