Curricular Subcommittee

It is my pleasure to be the Chair of the Curricular Sub-Committee for the Canada Games. Having the Canada Games in Niagara provides faculty, staff and students with an exciting opportunity to be part of a large national multi sport event that is important to the athletes and to our community.

MADELYN LAW

Chair, Curricular Subcommittee

The past three years have been filled with challenges but also great success in reaching our goal of supporting Brock faculty to create innovative classes that incorporate content and ideas related to the Canada Games   As the Chair of the Curricular Subcommittee, it was a great pleasure to bring together faculty members to discuss how best to support this work, while also providing funds to deserving and forward-thinking faculty who modified their courses to include Canada Games contentThis is not something that faculty members had to do – but they did it because they recognized the immense opportunity that this local event created to enhance learning for our students.

What has been most impressive is the breadth of areas that have harnessed this opportunity to make their course interesting and relevant to current events.  We had courses in history, sciences, mathematics, business, as well as sport management and kinesiology.  There has been the use of data to inform math assignments, cases created to enhance understanding of events, engagement of students in French translation and AI for games information.

I believe that this has provided a lasting legacy for integrating Canada Games content into courses and providing faculty with ideas on how to do the same with future events.

Purpose

The purpose of this committee is to identify, support and track Brock’s development and implementation of Games content and activities in academic courses.
