Career Options
The field of general management offers a wide range of potential career options across many different business areas and industry sectors. The following are examples of common career paths in general management:

General Managers are responsible for all aspects of a company’s operation. They ensure that operations run smoothly by planning, directing, and coordinating various business activities.

Business Development and Training is responsible for marketing, designing, developing, and coordinating specialized training or educational programs. They conduct strategic plans and needs assessments to ensure that client needs are being met.

Franchise Owners can own a business with an established trademark or brand and benefit from a proven business model. They coach and manage staff on customer service, and develop and execute an annual business plan.

Management Consultants help companies improve operations and efficiency by examining their existing processes. They identify any problems and help implement solutions and best practices as well as help the organization manage change.

Angela Quintinho, BBA General Management student

As a Brock student, I have been able to take advantage of various opportunities that have contributed not only to my academic but also personal and professional development. Striving for academic excellence has allowed me to be part of the Dean's Honour List and be inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma. I am currently the Vice-President of Events for the Brock Business Badgers (BBB), as well as one of the Business Students' Association (BSA) Orientation Week Coordinators. In terms of my professional experience, I have been able to gain real world exposure from my three co-op terms in the Automotive Financial industry as I took on several roles within Mercedes-Benz Financial Services. This summer I have been able to explore the public sector in more depth by working with the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities. I believe that your post-secondary experience cannot be defined by merely your classes and that extra-curricular activities have a huge impact on your personal growth as a business student, but more importantly as an individual!

I decided to concentrate in General Management because it allowed me to explore various areas of business while providing a wide range of opportunities. My strong work ethic is recognized by the Dean's Honour List since my first year at Brock and my induction into Beta Gamma Sigma in 2011. Extra-curricular activities have complemented my academic background as I am the current Vice-President of Social Media for the Brock Business Badgers (BBB) and one of the O-week Coordinators for the Business Students' Association (BSA). I have also been involved in other activities such as the Mentorship Program, the Student Welcoming and Awareness Team and as the Formal Coordinator for the BSA. Additionally, I have been able to extend my network by representing Brock in conferences such as Ted Rogers Management Conference, in which I placed second overall in the case competition. As for my professional experience, I have had the opportunity to complete co-op terms in the Health Care industry and I am currently exploring the financial sector with Royal Bank of Canada. It is important to make the most out of your university experience and take every chance to build your resume since it will better prepare you for the business world!
