How happy is Ron Sexsmith to be getting an honorary degree Tuesday morning (June 3) during a Brock University convocation in his hometown of St. Catharines?

Pleased enough that the internationally-renowned artist Tweeted out a caricature of himself wearing a graduation cap and gown – and playing the guitar. “This will be me tomorrow RS,” he wrote.

When the multiple-Juno-winning singer-songwriter accepts his honorary doctorate in the 10 am graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Humanities, don’t expect a long speech. Reliable reports say he’ll respond by doing what he does best – performing music live on stage.

Sexsmith is one of three VIPs to receive honorary doctorate degrees in this spring convocation.

Leo. W. Gerard, International President of the United Steelworkers, will be recognized at 10 am on Thursday June 5, while Sir Hillary Beckles, Principal and Vice-Chancellor at the University of the West Indies, receives his honour at 2 pm on the same day. Both ceremonies are for the Faculty of Social Sciences.
