Brock University is well represented at the Winter Olympic Games in Russia.

Six alumni are in Sochi, working behind the scenes in women’s hockey, television, opening and closing ceremonies and with the Canadian Olympic Committee.

“I have embraced every moment I’ve spent in Russia,” Stephanie Garant-Jones told the Tennessee Today last week. “No matter the challenges, I would never trade this experience.

“While the Olympics are about sporting prowess and defining moments, they are, in a larger sense, about the world coming together.”

Garant-Jones spent two years at Brock in the Sport Management program followed by a student exchange completing credits at the University of Tennessee on Letter of Permission.

The Quebec native is working her third Olympics. She worked in the Olympic Village in Vancouver 2010 and managed four competition venues two years ago at the Summer Games in London.

This year, she is part of the group that ensures communication between the cast and producers in the opening and closing ceremonies.

“When I was offered the chance to be involved in the opening and closing ceremonies in Sochi, I jumped at the opportunity.”
Brock grads Colin Freeman, Dana Tomiscek, Jordanna Phillips and Adel Mansurov are part of the Canadian Olympic Committee contingent in Sochi.

Kristopher Young, a film studies graduate, is the video coach with Canada’s women’s hockey team. The defending Olympic champions are 2-0 after a 3-0 win over Finland Monday.

Oakville native Jamie Arnold, who graduated from Brock in 2001 with a bachelor of arts in the Communications, Media Culture and Society stream, is part of the Olympic Broadcasting Services’ world feed production team for men’s hockey.
