BUFS presents 20 Feet from Stardom

The Brock University Film Series (BUFS) presents the acclaimed documentary, 20 Feet from Stardom on Wednesday night at the Pen Centre.

Directed by Morgan Neville, a veteran of music documentaries, the film takes its cue from the 2002 hit Standing in the Shadows of Motown by taking a long-overdue look at the great backup vocalists of pop music over the last 50 years. The film looks at their experiences and challenges, their rewards and disappointments.

One of the film’s stars is Darlene Love, the voice behind hits such as Da Doo Ron Ron and Christmas (Baby, Please Come Home), which she performs for David Letterman’s show every year.

Since the 1960s, Love has sung for Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley, Doris Day, and many other household names of the music business. And yet, there was a time when she still had to clean houses to pay her rent.

Today, Love is a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and in high demand as a dynamic solo performer. On Dec. 11, she comes to the Centre for the Arts to perform. Limited tickets are still available.
