Transitioning to university can be a major leap.
Fortunately, a program at Brock helps new students get off on the right foot.
LEAP, which stands for Leadership, Engagement, Achievement, Pride, helps incoming students get acquainted with Brock and St. Catharines, and learn more about their own leadership abilities.
The overnight program runs July 5-6, 13-14, 20-21 and Aug. 9-10. Students interested in taking part in LEAP can tack on an overnight stay to their Smart Start program participation. They can spend the day with Smart Start, spend a night in residence and then join students from Student Life and Community Experience the next day to visit downtown St. Catharines, meet people on and off campus, get familiar with resources and services on campus and discover service learning opportunities in Niagara.
Past participants have praised the program for easing the anxiety of living away from home for the first time because it has shown them how they can get more involved in their new community.
