2013 Spring Convocation overview

More than 3,300 students will graduate this week at Brock’s 2013 Spring Convocation, which takes place over eight ceremonies from Tuesday, June 11, to Saturday, June 15.

All ceremonies will be held in the Walker Complex in the Ian D. Beddis gymnasium. An outdoor reception for graduates, family members and guests will be held after each ceremony. Tickets are not required. All guests are welcome.

Ceremonies will also be video streamed live via livestream.com/brockuniversity

The eight ceremonies will proceed as follows:

Tuesday, June 11, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Humanities

Wednesday, June 12, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Education (includes Hamilton Campus)

  • Professor Mary-Louise Vanderlee, Department of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies in Education, Faculty of Education, will address Convocation
  • Education Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Jeff White (undergraduate)
  • Education Dean’s Medal: Jeff White

Wednesday, June 12, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Education

Thursday, June 13, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Social Sciences

  • Professor David DiBattista, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Social Sciences, will deliver the Convocation address
  • Social Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Danielle Brunetti (undergraduate)
  • Social Sciences Dean’s Medal (Pass): Stephanie Colic

Friday, June 14, 10 a.m. – Faculty of Applied Health Sciences; Faculty of Mathematics and Science

  • An honorary degree will be presented to Doug Rapelje, Past Director, Social Services and Senior Citizens, The Regional Municipality of Niagara, for his outstanding community leadership and passionate work in advancing the health and well-being of older adults. He will also address the graduating class.
  • Professor Alan Castle, Department of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Mathematics and Science, will be presented with the 2013 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Professor Cheri Bradish, Department of Sport Management, Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, will be presented with the 2013 Faculty Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Vincenzo Coia, an MSc student in mathematics and statistics, will be presented with the Governor General’s Gold Medal, awarded to the student who achieves the highest academic standing at the graduate level
  • Applied Health Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Nick Beamish (graduate)
  • Mathematics and Science Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winners: Laura Broley (undergraduate) and Ellen Robb (graduate)
  • Mathematics and Science Dean’s Medals: Laura Broley (Honours) and Frederick Graham (Pass)
  • Applied Health Sciences Dean’s Medals: Michelle Zahradnik (Honours) and Mathew Rocca (Pass)

Friday, June 14, 2 p.m. – Faculty of Applied Health Sciences

  • An honorary degree will be presented to Neil Armstrong, Professor of Paediatric Physiology, Senior Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Vice-President, University of Exeter, Devonshire, UK, for his exceptional academic contributions to the fields of paediatric physiology and sport and health sciences. He will also address the graduating class.
  • Applied Health Sciences Board of Trustees Spirit of Brock medal winner: Guillaume Viau (undergraduate)

Saturday, June 15, 10 a.m. – Goodman School of Business
